At Davidson, Shouldice and Shute Optometry we strive to provide the best eyecare experience available.  We pride ourselves on being a modern, full-scope optometric practice.  We are located in a large, newly constructed office with ample and convenient parking.  Our staff are knowledgeable, friendly and courteous.  Our doctors have a combined 50 years of experience providing comprehensive eye care.  We look forward to working with you to solve your vision care needs.

At Davidson, Shouldice and Shute Optometry we offer an extensive collection of modern eyewear.  Our collection is constantly evolving to stay current.  We stock approximately 700 frames from some of the best designers available.  Look for Ray Ban, Bolle, Banana Republic, Silhouette, Kate Spade, Coach, Ann Taylor, Krave, Alfred Sung, Hugo Boss, Sperry Top Sider, Lucky Brand, Max Mara, Easy Clip, Pentax, Polaroid, Carrera and Nano Vista.

DR. JOHN SHUTE-OWNER

John Shute was born and raised in Owen Sound.  He attended the "old" OSCVI before leaving for the University of Waterloo in 1999.  He graduated from University with an Honours Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2006.  He spent the last four months of his optometry training at Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Phoenix Arizona gaining valuable exposure to ocular disease management.  He was awarded the CooperVision award for contact lens excellence upon graduation.  He also attended a specialty contact lens fitting seminar in Jacksonville, Florida and special instruction in ocular disease management in Fort Worth, Texas.

John returned to Owen Sound in 2006 and joined Davidson Optometry.   John is married to Carrie and they have 2 children together. 

 

Dr. Emily Hertel

Dr. Hertel was born and raised in Owen Sound. She started working in this office as a student, answering phones and doing the initial testing on patients before their eye exams. This fueled her interest in optometry. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph, she went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry from New England College of Optometry (NECO) in Boston, MA.

She has gained valuable experience through her clinical rotations in hospital, private, and community health centre settings. Emily strives to create an inclusive environment for everyone. She feels tremendous gratitude being an optometrist, as it allows her to create small moments with her patients and impact their quality of life through excellent eye care.

Outside of the exam room, Emily enjoys spending time with family, hiking, skiing, and enjoying the beauty that Grey Bruce has to offer.

Dr. Heather Davidson

Dr. Heather Davidson grew up in Bancroft, Ontario.  She became interested in optometry when she began wearing contact lenses at the age of 17.

She attended the University of Waterloo for both her undergraduate studies and her optometric education.  She received her Doctor of Optometry in 1990 and is qualified to treat and manage ocular disease.

After graduation, Heather moved to Owen Sound and began her practice with Dr. John Rowe.

Heather enjoys reading, knitting, travelling and spending time with her family.

 

Dr. Heidi Wulff

Dr. Heidi Wulff grew up in Northwestern Ontario with a love for exploring the outdoors.  Her interest in optometry grew during her undergraduate years when she worked as an optometric assistant.

Heidi graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science followed by a Doctor of Optometry in 2015 from the University of Waterloo.  Her training included an externship at the John D. Dingall Veterens Affairs Medical Centre in Detroit, Michigan where she gained valuable exposure to managing ocular disease. 

Heidi worked in Brantford, ON, and at the Centre for Ocular Research and Education (formerly CCLR) in Waterloo, ON before joining John Shute Optometry in Owen Sound. 

Heidi, her husband, and children moved to Bruce County in 2017.  She enjoys hiking, canoeing, and exploring Lake Huron's shoreline with her family.

Dr. Mary Shouldice

Mary Shouldice was born in Kitchener and raised in Port Elgin, attending Port Elgin Saugeen Central School and then Saugeen District Secondary School.  In her teen years she became interested in the profession of Optometry and began working for Heather Davidson as a student in 1990.  
She completed her undergraduate studies and received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo in 1998.  She has received her certification for the treatment and management of Ocular Disease.  Upon graduation Mary settled in the Owen Sound area and joined Davidson Optometry as an optometrist in 2001.

Mary has been married to Steve since 2000 and they have four children.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) - Topcon 3D OCT-1 Maestro

The Topcon 3D OCT-1 Maestro allows us to quickly and accurately take the images of the eye. Both anterior segment images to help manage laser refractive surgery and cataract patients to retinal images and optic nerve scans to help care for patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma. The Topcon 3D OCT-1 is a state of the art diagnostic machine.


Humphrey HFA II-i - Visual Field Analyzer

The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer is the gold standard for detecting and monitoring glaucoma.  This allows our clinicians to quickly and accurately analyze peripheral vision to detect ocular disease and to determine eligibility for driving.


Technology - Topcon KR-1 - Auto Kerato-Refractometer

The Topcon KR-1 is a fully-automated kerato-refractometer that quickly and accurately measures the surface of the eye and estimates a patient's refractive error.  This helps our clinicians fit contact lenses more effectively, monitor for ocular disease and provide the most accurate spectacle prescriptions possible.
